She wears an eyepatch over her right eye and wears a WWII era Japanese military uniform and a school swimsuit underneath. She is one of the older members of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and helps train the newcomers of the group. She is quite strict and her training is harsh. However, she is a friendly woman with a distinctive hearty laugh. She also trains herself just as rigorously as the rookies. She has a samurai-esque mentality and believes that her place is on the battlefield. This belief also troubles her as she is painfully aware that she is past her peak in terms of her magical powers. She is unable to produce the powerful shields like she used to. Since she has weaker shields, she is more susceptible than the other Witches to suffering fatal injuries. Even though her magic is steadily dwindling, she insists on continuing to fight even though her superior Minna fears for her safety. Mio also wields a katana in combat and later crafts her own katana called Reppumaru, which is one of the more powerful hand held weapons in the series and can slice even the larger Neuroi in half. However, the Reppumaru also drains the user's magic. Mio's main magic ability is her Magic Eye which she covers in an eyepatch. When she takes the eyepatch off, she can farther than any normal human can see. This allows her to spot the Neuroi's approach faster than almost anyone else and see the major weakness of the Neuroi, their core. When using her magic, she gains Doberman ears and tail. Mio is especially close with Minna and Yoshika, the latter is the only other Fuso Empire citizen of the 501st Fighter Wing. Mio is not good with recognizing signs of affection and does not realize that Perrine is in love with her. She is based off of the Japanese ace pilot Sakai Saburo.
