wow that's bad...and I thought Hawaii led as the worst national education.

i wouldnt throw california in this because the majority cant even read what they are being taught.

I don't live in Detroit, but it's things like that make me have to give the school I went to a lot of credit despite the faults it might of had. Even when things where tough and the budget was bad it graduated almost everybody. Of course that was over a decade ago and I don't know how it is now.

I did. There's something to be said for those few (and becoming fewer) teachers that had really dedicated themselves to educating kids, but the again, I graduated in the eighties when teachers were apparently "allowed" to teach as they saw fit on an individual, personal basis.
As I understand the failing system we have today is that the teachers have to follow a cookie cutting, theoretical - outcome based system of educating kids. It would appear that the teachers themselves are in a sense collectively becoming brainwashed, or forced, as it were, to instruct false truths and incompetent methods, not to mention, an anti disciplinary ambiance, not conducive to education whatsoever. The discipline factor within the American publik school apparatus is atrocious and disgraceful ! Why ? because there are guidelines in place, via the teachers association, who reach for alternative methods for anything and everything because they're "progressivists" and in turn, they can effectively increase the size of government which they are entirely beholden to when they should have their pathetic asses beholden to educating kids !! Not wayward, tweeky politiks !
In summary, what we have here is a breakdown of our education system as a result of too much misplaced power and authority within the United States Board of Education. Than you Jimmah Ca ta
Aside - One of my best friends is a principal at a local public elementary school here in town . . he tells me about the memos from "the top" . . obey orders or lose your job !
Really a sick and coercive scheme to keep our kids away from the essential R, R & Rs. (reading, Writing & 'rithmetic)

We've all known for years that Detroit shows up on the bottom of every list of cities, no matter the criteria.
There are a lot of "Societal" fixes that could be done to jumpstart this entire state. This might be the state that should adopt a flat tax strategy. They must be aggressive in attracting new businesses too. There is a stigma that young people in Michigan immediately FLEE the state whenever they can. That has to stop...
Detroit might need to model itself as "the Sweden" of America...Universal Health alone for everyone in the state might be one way to bring young, educated people back in there...

so who can we blame?
im from michigan and i live 45 mins north of detroit....
i own a construciton company and millwork shop and for the past 5 years i did alot of work in the big detorit buildings....
and the past year there is no work at all.....in fact all of michigan has no work...im doing work down in virginia just because im trying ot keep my guys busy...i had 46 guys working for me and now im down to 8....:eek:
i know detroit is def not the safest or and greatest city to live in..but i love detroit...(mostly the tigers,psitons,and red wings) but detroit problem isnt the people there... they have 10 teenagers care centers for kids to go...and all other kind of community functions that help the city...there is 2 problems..
1: there isnt any work...everyone is buying toyota and honda (and to any who own those cars :thefinger, thx for supporting ur COUNTRY) which makes all the shiftworkers jobless...i know of 4 other trade companies that went out of business..2 of them were good friends of mine....im barely able to pay for my house right now....
2: the leadership is all corrupt...kwame needs to be kicied out and half of the city concil is corrupt... most of the cops love the city but there are a few bad ones...

I agree that many domestic forms of employ have been lost as a result of the imports, but somewhere along the line, the "corporatists" had a meeting, if you will, and decided that they wanted to increase their profit margin. Enter OUTSOURCING and free trade, NAFTA SHAFTA GATT and the rest is history.
I think that at least Michigan and Calif. will get reassigned in my lifetime.
